"Take A Seat for Alexandria" City-Wide Art Exhibit in support of the Alexandria Library Foundation (04/01/26 through 05/17/26):

The Take A Seat Upcycling Community Art Exhibit is a very cool project in which local artists were selected to decorate chairs that were set to be discarded and instead were given a second life as upcycled artwork! The theme for the artwork is "America 250." From April 1 through May 1, the finished art pieces will be on display at Alexandria Library branches and several local businesses and organizations. My upcycled chair (see pics below) is on exhibit at Del Ray Artisans Gallery (2704 Mount Vernon Avenue; Alexandria, VA 22301). On May 9, all the chairs will return to Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library (5005 Duke Street; Alexandria, VA 22304) for display, and the library will also host a panel discussion with local artists and art experts to discuss the upcycled chairs and the importance of public art.

Panel discussion:

Saturday, 05/09/26 at 12 p.m. at Beatley Central Library, Large Meeting Room

Tours of the artwork led by teen docent volunteers at Beatley Central Library:

Saturday, 05/09/26 at 10:30 a.m. (Tour #1)

Saturday, 05/09/26 at 11:30 a.m. (Tour #2)

All the chairs will also be available to purchase as part of an online auction while on display. The auction will be open from April 1 through May 17, with the proceeds going to benefit the Alexandria Library Foundation. Please see this link for more information:  www.alexlibraryva.org/take-a-seat.
